The record

Tennessee Theatre opened on October 1, 1928 as a downtown movie palace. After a major restoration, it reopened on January 15, 2005 as a performing-arts venue, retaining the illuminated vertical sign and marquee that identify its Gay Street facade.

This print keeps the theatre inside the whole block. The tall sign rises through the center, the marquee projects over the entrance, and neighboring facades and streetlamps continue along both sides. Blank display panels remove show advertising while the venue name remains part of the depicted architecture.

The composition presents a named place in its street setting, not a detached wordmark or a piece of official merchandise.

What this print shows

The vertical sign is the brightest and narrowest element, but it is balanced by the long marquee below and the receding row of facades to the left. Warm bulbs and cream walls sit against a clear deep blue sky. The display panels are blank, door and window detail is reduced, and multiple streetlamps establish the scale of the block rather than isolating the lettering.
